Herman Lamers: De Ontmoeting
Mijn werk als kunstenaar, docent en curator ontwikkelt en beweegt zich rond de ontmoeting. De confrontatie tussen verhaal en idee, vorm en materiaal, ruimtes en visuele concepten in een geconcentreerde context. Als kunstenaar onderzoek ik de principes, mogelijkheden en onmogelijkheden van het toevoegen van een kunstmatig element aan een ruimte, een constructie, een situatie. De ontmoeting met een ruimte of ruimtelijke situatie is voor mij essentieel en ervaar ik als bijzonder motiverend. Mijn visuele antwoorden zijn in principe altijd gekunsteld en kunstmatig, soms harmonieus en esthetisch, maar ook vaak geforceerd en onhandig. Aan de ene kant is er het verlangen om te integreren met de ruimte in de geest van de ruimte, de 'genie loci', en aan de andere kant is er het verlangen om een autonoom antwoord te geven op de situatie.
The Encounter
My work as an artist, teacher and curator develops and moves around the encounter. The confrontation between story and idea, form and material, spaces and visual concepts in a concentrated context.
As an artist I investigate the principles, possibilities and impossibilities of adding an artificial element to a space, a construction, a situation. The encounter with a space or spatial situation is essential for me and I experience it as particularly motivating. My visual answers are in principle always contrived and artificial, sometimes harmonious and aesthetic, but also often forced and clumsy. On the one hand there is the desire to integrate with space in the spirit of space, genius loci, and on the other hand there is the desire to give an autonomous answer to the given.
